Week four:Stamina

The word "stamina" used in Japanese culture at the sports, it is natural that this word stands for endurance and continuation of something. In this books, the word stamina used little bit different, but also natural. In the book, it means tolerance and storond-minded self control.

Meanings of "stamina" are put together in one sentence, "His self control, luck of self pity, and ability to care for others are admire quality." I espesially admired second, luck of self pity. I was very surprised to know Shackleton's physical ability is not gifted. He ignored that and disclosed to cheer up other crue. If he was stick to his weak point, Shackleton could not lead such severe condition. I recentry wrote about optimism, Shackleton is the very person who should do a leader.

I also admired third quality, to monitor and encourage other men. I worked in Fuji mountain cottage for climbers in one month as a one of worker last year. At first, my job is just work so hard, however, around
the end of work, I expected to know about other members work condition, health, and flow of client. For me, this task is overwelming, I could not carry on perfectly, because to look others is required more conscious resource than onself working. It was cotinuous of take careing, therefore not comfortable and easy.

Finally, I undestand that ordinary "stamina" can get easily if you train your body, however the true "stamina "  Shackleton's three qualities arereally precious thing.

  1. Hi Shumpei,

I really like the way you chose this one quotation and focused on these three aspects of this particular definition of stamina.

And I think it is great that you worked at a mountain hut—I have spent a lot of time in such huts as a climber.
